Psychologist : Ms. Lanurse Chen M.Psych (Counselling)

Ms. Lanurse Chen

Lanurse is a counselling psychologist who received her professional training in Australia. Over her decade-long career as a psychologist in a local tertiary hospital, she has worked extensively with individuals, ranging from young adults to elderly, presented with anxiety, depression, OCD, trauma, grief and loss, pain as well as adjustment issues. In addition, she provides crisis intervention for individuals or groups who encounter adverse events.

Lanurse also has a keen interest in Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), as well as working with those presenting with mood and anxiety issues due to sudden physical illness or chronic diseases. The recovery journey from a sudden physical illness or management of chronic diseases can affect the psychological well-being of an individual. The experience may be traumatizing as well. Therefore, it is important to recognize and address the possible psychological impact to achieve a better quality of life.

Lanurse adopts an integrated and person-centred therapeutic approach in her work with clients. Her guiding principle in therapy is that every individual is the expert in their life. Therefore, she views her role as one that uses her professional knowledge to journey with clients, helping them to discover their inherent strengths and regain control of their lives.

Lanurse is skilled across a wide spectrum of techniques. Her training includes:

  • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) – Helps individuals recognize the interconnection between their thoughts and emotions, identifying their unhelpful thinking patterns and learning to reframe their inaccurate perceptions.
  • Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) – Helps individuals learn how to modify and challenge unhelpful beliefs relating to their trauma.
  • Emotional-Focused Therapy (EFT) – Helps individuals to increase their awareness, understanding, and acceptance of their emotions and learn how to regulate their emotions when feeling overwhelmed.
  • Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT) – Helps individuals develop psychological flexibility by accepting unwanted thoughts and feelings and committing to action that enriches their lives.
  • Neuro-linguistic Programing (NLP) – Helps to address an individual’s thoughts and actions through the use of perceptual, behavioural, and communication techniques.
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI) – Helps to bring about change through exploring and resolving ambivalent feelings about changing their behaviour.
  • Mindfulness – Helps individuals achieve relaxation of the mind and body by focusing on the present moment.

Lanurse is a full member of the Singapore Psychological Society and the Australia Psychological Society. She is also a registered psychologist and supervisor with the Singapore Register of Psychologists.
